Senior Capstone is a project that represents an opportunity for advanced, individualized design research and study. You must develop a capstone project based on your own design interests and prior experiences and learning in the Graphic Design program.

Shea Skincare

After finding research, my project focused on creating a Skincare Company for African American women. Research shows how skincare products targeted toward African American women often contain toxic chemicals that harm the melanin of colored skin compared to products catered toward white women.

Shea Skincare provides safe and natural organic products for the demographic of eighteen to thirty-year-old African American women. The company’s main goal is to make the audience feel safe and comfortable when using its products. Along with them feeling like family with Shea Skincare, as the company wants to continue growing a community for black women.

Shea Skincare’s brand stylesheet is a mix of both simplistic and elegant whilst being fun and energetic with the use of a silk fabric texture background and illustrative organic patterns of leaves and ingredients. The three tones of brown relate to the different skin tones, gold is to express that luxury aspect, and yellow for it is a happy, energetic, and bright color that instantly catches the audience’s attention.

Shea Skincare’s Products

Shea’s products were developed based on research on what natural and safe ingredients gave the best health benefits to black
women’s skin. Shea wants to feed their skin with safe products that contain safe ingredients and give them the best experience.

We are 100% Natural and Safe

Shea’s Advertising consists more of a Social Awareness Campaign to inform the audience
of toxic chemicals in skincare products and how Shea is one-hundred percent natural and safe.

Shea’s Benefits Posters

The next set of advertising consists of important information about the benefits of skincare products. It is illustrated
in an interactive and fun way to be consistent throughout the brand, and easily communicate the message to the audience.

Shea’s Website

Shea Skincare’s E-Commerce Website informs customers more about the company and its products and lets the audience shop and order on the website. The website contains user accessibility to give the best experience navigating through the website.

Shea’s Pop-Up Web Ad Banners

Shea’s pop-up web ad banners appear on the website, providing discounts and
updates for the audience who insert their email, sign up, or simply purchase a
specific product from the website. The pop-ad banners are to entice the audience
into purchasing a product by giving them offers that benefit and value them.

Shea’s Gallery Exhibit

The entire production of designing for the company led to the Gallery
Exhibit, where Shea Skincare will have its own space to emphasize its’ environment. Based on research, brick-and-mortar skincare stores are
highly favored because customers get to use the area as a playground
and test-try products to decide if they want to purchase or not. Research shows a method to make a store more recognizable is to make the area aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

These methods will give the customers the best experience and it led to
the creation of Shea Skincare’s store. Golden leaves that fit the brand
colors and overall value and mission of Shea (natural and safe products),
a seating area for customers to experiment with products on their skin
and see the overall result in the mirror, and a shelves area for the products on display with their dedicated information poster.

Additional merchandise is the store bags you receive in the store and the skincare pouch kit you obtain for free. Along with showcasing how the website box will look when you purchase online. A sticker and skincare pouch kit is given after purchase.
